According to the official website of TotalEnergies on February 18, 2025, TotalEnergies (Total Energy) has joined hands with Air Liquide (Air Liquide Group) to use green hydrogen to promote the decarbonization of Nordic refineries.

● The OranjeWind offshore wind farm developed by Total Energy (50%) produces 45,000 tons of green hydrogen per year.

● Total Energy's refineries in Antwerp and Zeeland reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 450,000 tons per year.

● The electrolyzer jointly developed by Total Energy and Air Liquide Group in the Netherlands will provide hydrogen for the Zeeland refinery.

● The second electrolyzer built and operated by Total Energy and Air Liquide Group provides hydrogen for the Antwerp platform and has signed a processing agreement.

Paris, February 18, 2025 – In line with its goal of decarbonizing hydrogen used in European refineries by 2030, Total Energy has signed an agreement with Air Liquide to develop two projects in the Netherlands to produce and deliver approximately 45,000 tons of green hydrogen per year from renewable energy, mainly powered by the OranjeWind offshore wind farm, developed by Total Energy (50%) and RWE (50%). These projects will enable Total Energy’s refineries in Belgium and the Netherlands to reduce up to 450,000 tons of CO2 emissions per year and contribute to Europe’s renewable energy targets in the transport sector.

The two companies have signed an agreement to establish a joint venture, jointly owned by Total Energy (50%) and Air Liquide (50%), which will build and operate a 250 MW electrolyzer near the Zeeland refinery. The project will produce up to 30,000 tons of green hydrogen per year, most of which will be delivered to the Zeeland platform. The electrolyser is scheduled to be operational in 2029 and will reduce the site's CO2 emissions by up to 300,000 tons per year. The project represents an investment of approximately €600 million for both parties and has applied for support from European and national subsidy programs. Project funding will also be sought jointly by both parties.

In addition, as part of Air Liquide's 200 MW ELYgator electrolyser project in Maasvlakte, the Netherlands, Total Energy has signed a processing agreement, 130 MW of which will be dedicated to the production of 15,000 tons of green hydrogen per year to supply Total Energy's refining platform in Antwerp. Under the agreement, Total Energy will provide renewable electricity produced by the OranjeWind project to Air Liquide Group for conversion into green hydrogen. The project is expected to be operational by the end of 2027 and will reduce the Antwerp site's CO2 emissions by up to 150,000 tons per year.
