Recently, the blue ammonia plant invested by Qatar Energy started construction in Qatar's Messaieed Industrial City. After completion, it will become the world's largest blue ammonia production plant.
The plant has a total investment of 4.4 billion Qatari riyals (about 8.8 billion yuan) to build an ammonia production unit with an annual output of 1.2 million tons and a carbon dioxide capture and storage unit with an annual output of 1.5 million tons. It is expected to be put into operation in the second quarter of 2026.
Blue ammonia is a low-carbon ammonia that reduces carbon dioxide emissions through carbon capture and storage technology during the production process. According to Qatar Energy, it will provide more than 35 megawatts of electricity for the new plant, which comes from a solar power plant being built in Messaieed Industrial City.
Qatar Energy said that the blue ammonia plant is part of its ambitious expansion plan around the world and an important milestone in expanding its clean energy strategy by producing low-carbon ammonia.
